Our goal at TMSA is to uphold high academic expectations for all students while creating a safe and positive learning environment throughout the school. In this classroom we will utilize a variety of positive behavior interventions and support (PBIS) strategies to encourage all students to be responsible and respectful learners.
At the end of the day students will reflect on their day and rate themselves with either a happy face, straight face or sad face based on how they feel their day went. This will allow students to build on their own personal integrity. I will sign off on each day, and send home on Fridays for parents to sign and return. Students who receive 4 or more happy/straight faces for the week will be allowed to choose a classroom incentive such as a homework pass, math computer center, sit in the teacher's chair coupon, etc.
If a student breaks a rule then I will address the concern with the student in order to resolve the issue. I may choose to address the concern in one of these ways:
1, Warning/verbal correction
2. Conference with student and appropriate natural conference (apology, self reflection, silent lunch, modeling of correct behavior)
3. Note home
4. Phone call home
5. Office referral
This will also result in a student changing their happy face into a straight or down to a sad face for the day.
